I’m Jessica and I will be your hostess, editor, sweet treats designer, baker and Jess-of-all-trades. I’m still not quite sure how I got here but the point is I am here and now you’re here so let’s get this party started. I’ve loved baking, fashion and make-up for as long as I can remember. As a young girl, The Nana and I would bake together every Christmas. I loved the happiness that came with fresh-baked treats, from the sweet smells that filled the house to the sounds of, “Mmmmm” as everyone took their first bite.
Fast forward a few years. I was working at a spa with a girl named Nicole. She loved all things girlie, just like me, and to this day, is one of the most talented Make-up Artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I was making a bunch of mini “spiked” cupcakes for an event at the spa and Nicole said, “You should do this for a living…you could call the company Sugar and Spiked.” I was instantly in love with the name. Shortly after, Nicole told me about Bakerella and the cake pop craze. I promptly made up a batch and they were a hit…and so it started. Cupcakes, cookies, cake pops…I was up for the challenge.
About a week after that, Nicole unexpectedly passed away from a brain aneurysm. That day forever changed me and it was in that moment that I realized you have to live each day as if it may be your last, love what you do and do what you love. Although, I don’t necessarily make every sweet treat “Spiked”, keeping the name was my way of remembering a friend that taught me so much in such a little amount of time. A girl who made a difference in the lives of everyone she met. A girl whose smile could light up a room. A girl who saw the good in everyone and everything. A girl I hope to be like someday.
So, here I am. Just Jessica. A normal girl who watches Jeopardy, knows every word to every episode of Sex in the City, can drive a forklift in heels, loves Champagne but has been known to drink a Miller Lite in a brown paper bag from time to time, is a MAC makeup pro, adores Sephora, has worked in every industry from Restaurants and Spas to Insurance and Construction and can whip up a mean batch of Cake pops. And apparently, now I’m a blogger. So please sit back, enjoy and always remember to be kind.
